Opening the XII National Conference on HIV / AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, Governor Andres Granier Melo called to transform the forum into an example of solidarity and tolerance, as well as opportunity to reiterate our appreciation to those who fight against this evil, to send a message of hope and to redouble efforts to meet the goals of the Millennium Declaration, the United Nations Organization (UNO).
He added that every person with HIV, every teenager who started their sexual life, each family a victim of ignorance and violence, challenges our ability to respond. "While there is no cure for this epidemic is everyone's responsibility to ensure the necessary conditions so that those affected receive proper care, are treated with dignity and an improved quality of life," he explained.
During the event, attended by federal Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos, the local chief executive said that AIDS is a matter of public health and Human Rights, an urgent task that we must engage in a thorough and time completely.
In the presence of the director of UNAIDS for Latin America, César Antonio Núñez, and the Secretary of Health of Campeche, Ivan Gonzalez Enrique Lopez, the president welcomed Tabasco receive envoys from 14 countries in Latin America.
In the opening ceremony, which together with Córdova Villalobos lit the candle for the 30 years of activism in Mexico in response to AIDS, Andres Granier said that year after year, the virus kills millions of people worldwide, but in Mexico you go to everyday actions, and in Tabasco face with better results thanks to the continued support of the Federation.
He said that preventing the spread of AIDS has to do with better sex education, and this in turn, with strong values and principles, especially in young people. So, he explained, from the State System for Integral Family Development (DIF), is leading a campaign to promote values and principles that have been lost.
He said the challenge is great for Tabasco and the entire South-Southeast of the country, considering that the UN, one of the main risks occurs in places such as Tabasco migratory flow and the region. Meanwhile, Cordova Villalobos said that 30 years have described the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in the United States, there are 33.3 million people with HIV worldwide. In Mexico, there are currently 48 000 people with AIDS and 34 000 976 with HIV without developing.
However, he added, the HIV epidemic remains concentrated in Mexico with a prevalence between men and women aged 15 to 49 years of age, with which the country is among the lowest in the world. Nevertheless, the official reiterated its responsibility to continue to support public health programs and make every effort in combating the disease.
The member of the Science Advisory Council of the Presidency of the Republic, Guillermo Soberón Acevedo, gave the conference Thirty Years: a Generation, an Answer.
The inauguration was also attended by Director of National Center for Prevention and Control of HIV-AIDS, Jose Antonio Izazola Licea, the president of the thematic group on HIV-AIDS, UN-Mexico, Diego Palacios Jaramillo, and the national commissioner Social Protection in Health, Solomon Chertorivski Woldenberg.
