On behalf of the Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection (Sernapam) Whizar Silvia Lugo, Directors of Social Participation, Raymundo Saury Arias and Community Development, Jorge Martinez Gutierrez closed the First Symposium of Experts on Southeast Family Gardens Mexico.
The closing two days of work, which involved technical, industry officials, academics and teachers, was also in charge of the director of the Academic Division of Intercultural University, Hugo Martín Hernández Cabrera. These representatives of the institutions that sponsored the symposium, participants urged to apply those experiences in the classroom, but also in communities.
The research fellow of the College de la Frontera Sur, San Cristobal Drive, Erin Estrada Lugo said in his message that the garden-or solar, in a broader concept, encompasses both housing, as that area where farmers grow products their livelihoods.
He added that despite its simple name, the garden is a complex issue because in the environment affect public policy, economic crisis, climate change, affecting both production and the organization. So what was learned during the symposium, it is vital now more than ever to apply to recover their origin and purpose, he said.
He said that in addition to seeking recovery and family order, the study and the introduction of the orchards should also be done in schools, in order to cultivate new generations know. "This is not to study the garden from a discipline, but to form teams to address the red dots, to continue to address the structure of the orchards, he said.
He recalled that this form of food production, has been a traditional livelihood of families and recently recovering spaces as privileged elements because it can be an excellent weapon for food security, he said.
In the activities, speakers addressed issues such as the Yucatec Maya sun, feeding farm families Xmejía, Hopelchén, Campeche, The site of the family economy of Tabasco, The orchard, social space and sovereignty, with the participation of Sustainability Olcuatitán women, Nacajuca, and some aspects addressed in the study of garden in southeast Mexico, among others.
Shortly before taking a souvenir photo, along with the head of the Department of Natural Resources Management, El Colegio de la Frontera Sur, Ramon Mendez Mariaca, Professor Graduate School researcher, campus Veracruz, Maria del Carmen Alvarez Avila and Dr. Alba Gonzalez Jacome, gave awards to the participants, including the holder of Sernapam.
