Where were you born?
I was born in Ostuacan, Chiapas a municipality that is very glued to Tabasco, near Huimanguillo, but I really think Tabasco in heart, for two years we moved to Huimanguillo, so I have been 27 years living in Tabasco.
How old are you?
I have 29 years, born in 1980 and next year, when Mexico will be celebrating its Bicentennial of Independence and the century of revolution, I will be serving 30 years old.
¿Hobbies, sports, likes?
I used to practice wushu kung fu, but due to time I left earlier this year, if I spent a few degrees but did not get to black belt. Any other hobby, maybe watch some TV shows like Dr. House and Fringe when time permits.
Tell me about your studies, where did you study? Do you remember a special teacher?
The university in the UJAT realized in the Academic Division of Computer and Systems Cunduacán, there I studied a degree in Computer Management from 1998 to 2003, a teacher in particular, as would be the first program I was taught as the teacher of Alexandria and Master Arceo, who were the first with whom I had the opportunity to develop my logic for programming.
If you stay with a single university teaching, what would it be?
Maybe to sum it up in one sentence would be: "Study in Doubt and Faith in Action."
What did you learn best at work?
At work I have learned to always be aware of changes and new technologies in software development are presented, I have also learned to listen and understand customers, to accept opinions that may be contrary to mine and establish intermediate points in the negotiations say that in the realm of the strictly labor, the other important thing is that while I have been working, I have met very interesting people with whom he has been a pleasure to work, I will always trying to learn as good, the best you can find both of my bosses and my colleagues, imitating and learning from best practices.
The UN, Tell me how you heard about the hiring process?
In the middle of last year, through an email sent UJAT your distribution list placement program for graduates in the email which in turn had been forwarded by one they came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that the UN was calling for Mexican professionals to participate in the National Competitive Examination 2009, specializing in Information Technology, which is a test that aims to recruit professionals to income levels in the UN staff.
So out of curiosity more than anything else, I went to the website you cited, I downloaded the forms, filled them and returned by email to the address indicated, that because this examination consists of several stages, in the first, when you open the call, they invite only nationals of the countries that are not adequately represented within the staff, in this case, Mexico is a country that is not adequately represented when nationals working for the UN, as well as Mexico, the call is opened for 42 countries. In early 2009, I received a letter from the UN that I received by mail, where I was invited to present the written examination in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico in February, where, again, and urged by my colleagues, I, in my view, to see what it was.
The review was quite extensive, with four hours long, was in a room of the SRE, which was full, because the call will also apply to specialists in other areas, at the end of it, we were informed that the results would be published on the website this summer, I would comment here that in total, specializing in IT in Mexico, 34 people attended that day, but at international level, countries that were called, had more than 320 people.
It was finally in August, published the results for the field of IT, there verified that my number had been approved candidate for the interview, which was at the UN headquarters in New York City, and a server , we convened a total of 4 Mexican and level with the other countries that participated, a total of 28 were invited to the interview.
How was your interview in New York?
The interview was last October, was attended by four UN officials, three of my area of ​​expertise and human resources representative, the format of the interview consisted of two parts, the first part asked me questions in the they wanted to know a little about my skills, to see if they are compatible with those required for a UN official, maybe not so much based on my knowledge, but how is my way of working together with foreign, what challenges I faced and overall experience, I feel I did very well here, it is worth mentioning that the interview, like the whole process was conducted in English, as the two official working languages ​​are English and there French, but since I do not know "j" in French, because I chose English.
In the second part, they made me a series of questions related to international affairs, to measure how was updated in such issues, for example, what was my opinion about human cloning, what positions are the countries in this regard and what should the UN do about it, and other questions related to the global economic recession, fortunately, as I read the newspaper every day and I could somehow overcome all the questions I did.
Overall I did well in the interview, because in early November released to candidates who eventually became the template of qualified personnel to fill vacancies, and my shtick was published in twenty-two were finally selected, which does not mean you go to work immediately with them, but that within a little over a year, they would be contacting me to work in a workstation of the UN.
What advice can you give young people to improve their lives?
Is prepared, to study, you want to throw whatever they are engaged in, that if you finished a race, who specialize and try to keep up, what you learn in school are just the basics, but one should look not just stay with that knowledge, but to have that open mind to the possible changes that occur, for those who believe they have it all, well, perhaps that may be temporary, must be prepared to learn to manage what one has and not squander resources, and I mean not just to economic resources, but also the young talent we have here in Tabasco, as someone said there, there is a hotbed of talent, all is that for these seeds to germinate, because we have to grow them in my case, I do not consider myself one of a kind or an eminence or anything like that, perhaps, I have not achieved much yet, just took the opportunity I presented and we'll see what happens in a year.
