UNIZAR ready UJAT and partnership and academic exchange

¨ As part of the Expo Zaragoza 2008, Tabasco authorities met with officials from the Department for International Relations at the University of Zaragoza in Spain.

With the backing of Gov. Andres Granier Melo, Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco (UJAT) and the grouping of Southeast Ovinocultores Associates (OAS) will shortly sign an agreement for scientific collaboration, research and academic exchange with the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR) and Pastors cooperative, considered a model in raising sheep and producing high quality beef in the European market.

Following visits by the president of Tabasco and the president of the OAS, Dagoberto Lara Silk, made ​​in company with the director of the Academic Division of Agricultural Sciences (TAT) of UJAT, Jorge Arturo Diaz Gonzalez, pens business group which brings about a thousand producers, began the first approaches to refine an agreement to apply Tabasco Spanish techniques used for the development of lambs.

In the meeting which also involved Dr. Pilar Zaragoza, representative of the Department of Anatomy, Embryology and Animal Genetics at the University Iberian Andres Granier expressed his satisfaction on this academic approach that will allow the OAS UJAT and Tabasco to send specialists this province, to be trained in techniques of raising, breeding and marketing of sheep.

The prime minister instructed the Secretary of Agricultural Development, Forestry and Fisheries (Sedafop), José Carlos Ocaña Becerra, who came to Zaragoza on the invitation of the group Ovinocultores Associates Southeast, to support the efforts of the UJAT and form a solid team work involved in the medium and long term results similar to those obtained by Spanish producers.

Jorge Arturo Diaz, director of the TAT, explained that through the agreement shall lie in motion one of the most ambitious projects that encourages the Governor Andres Granier, as is to invigorate the sheep sector, to increase the quality of the herd and compete in the international market with highly producing countries such as Australia, Germany and Spain itself.

He mentioned that as part of Expo Zaragoza 2008, the mission also visited UJAT Veterinary Hospital Small and Large Species of the university in this region, which has first world infrastructure, and will soon open its doors Tabasco to be trained in the field of sheep breeding.

He said that as part of the academic modernization, the UJAT also maintains relations with Iberian companies and banking institutions such as Banco Santander, which has been supporting with pension funds, and is intended to contribute now with this new project through funding.
